With all prior publications on Ulysses, and even some since 1984, referring to a variety of editions, there is no convenient method of relating these either to the line references introduced by Hans Walter Gabler or to any other edition. Professor Gabler's chapter/line format enables the creation of a common baseline with which to relate all other editions of Ulysses.

The editions are arranged in chronological order starting with the 1922 Shakespeare and Company first edition through to the 1986 Bodley Head/Random House/Penguin. With the recent and on-going proliferation of reprints of earlier editions of Ulysses it is increasingly necessary to cross-reference between citations of various editions.

Cross-reference between editions is facilitated with Pagefinder by using the Gabler chapter/line format as a standard.

The Rosenbach manuscript of Ulysses and the 16 Ulysses volumes of the James Joyce Archive containing drafts, placards and proofs have been collated and are included in Pagefinder. Also provided are chapter/line references to the serial publications in the Little Review and the Egoist.
